Task and responsibilities :
- Plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with approved menus
- Cater for allergies, dietary requirements and cultural preferences
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
- Order, receive and monitor food supplies and kitchen stock levels
- Ensure correct storage, rotation and handling of food products
- Work within budgeted food costs and minimise waste
- Maintain records relating to food temperatures, cleaning schedules and compliance requirements
- Assist in developing seasonal menus that promote healthy eating habits
- Communicate effectively with educators and management regarding children’s dietary needs
- Ensure all kitchen operations comply with relevant health and safety regulations.
Qualification and experience :
- Relevant Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher qualification, or at least 3 years of relevant work experience
- Minimum 12 months of recent full time relevant work experience as a Cook
- Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen compliance procedures
- Experience preparing meals in a childcare, school, aged care or high volume kitchen environment is highly regarded
- Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Positive attitude and genuine interest in children’s wellbeing.
