Children’s Services – Assistant
Upper Hunter Early Learning Centre - Scone
Permanent role – up to 38 hours per week
$1135.90 – $1315.80 per 38 hour week + 12% super and the opportunity for salary progression
The Role :
The Children’s Services Assistant will be responsible to work as part of a professional, cooperative team to provide high quality education and care programs for the children in the Early Learning Centre in accordance with the National Quality Framework for Education and Care Services.
Selection Criteria
Essential :
- Current approved Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent
qualification and experience in a similar role - Obtain and maintain a current Working with Children check
- Possess and maintain current approved First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis
certification - Understanding of development practices for children 0 – 6 years
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Current unrestricted drivers licence.
Desirable :
- Current approved Child Protection qualification
- Experience working in an early education and care setting (preferably long day care)
- Awareness of the requirements of the National Quality Framework
- Approved Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent.
Key Duties and Functions
- Work as part of a team to provide high quality care and customer service.
- Interact positively to provide each child with individual attention and comfort as required
including attending to each child’s hygiene and nutritional needs - Provide inclusive practices and strategies and include children with additional, diverse and
ongoing high support needs - Supervise and participate in the children’s daily program of activities and routines
- Support and cultivate positive behaviour in children according to service procedures and
contemporary theories and approaches - Assist in implementing daily routines
- Assist in creating a safe, supportive and stimulating environment for children and their
ongoing learning and development - Communicate with parents to provide feedback in relation to their child
- Assist with the preparation, implementation and evaluation of appropriate educational
curriculum for individual children and groups - Assist in observing, recording and intentionally planning for the ongoing development of
children - Maintain awareness of and assist with consistently implementing quality practice principles
in accordance with the National Quality Framework (including National Law and Regulations
and National Quality Standards) and service policies and procedures - Assist in undertaking and implementing requirements for quality rating and assessment
- Maintain awareness of and comply with relevant child protection laws and any obligations
you may have under these - Assist in taking reasonable steps to protect children from harm and hazards and managing
incidents, illness and injuries - Assist in maintaining safe and clean environments, equipment and materials for use in the
programs and maintain infection control and hygiene practices - Maintain an awareness of, and effectively follow the general administrative and
housekeeping procedures and systems relevant to the position - Participate in the continuous improvement process by participating in critical reflection and
assisting to review and update relevant policies, procedures and practices - Other duties as directed, within the skills and capabilities of the employee.
